Memorial Day, formerly known as Decoration Day, is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering and commemorating those who have died during military service.

When is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day will be on Monday, May 28 2018, it marks the start of the unofficial summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Memorial Day is on the last Monday of May each year.

What is Memorial Day?

Orginally known as Decoration Day, it originally came from the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. It was originally designed to be to remember the Civil War but then was widened in 1971 to include all wars.

How can I remember those on Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for every person who died service in the US armed forces. Often observances are held at military graveyards and cemeteries and military themed parades are held throughout the country. People are also invited to observe a moment of silence at 3pm, a tradition established by President Clinton.
